Kickstart comes to Leather Lane – Hatton Garden
KickStart – the initiative set up by the British Jewellers Association and International Jewellery, London – is displaying the work of the 10 winners for this year at London Rocks in Leather Lane, Hatton Garden. The exhibition will be open to the public from 31st October to 31st January 2015.
KickStart was first launched in 2011 by the BJA as a bursary scheme to provide mentoring for young designer-jewellers, recent graduates carefully selected for this 12 month training programme, who all receive marketing and industry help and have the opportunity to showcase their work at International Jewellery London. Adorn Insight (the trend forecasters for the jewellery industry) will choose one outstanding designer to receive their annual award of a 12 month subscription to their service. And finally, in the spring, the trade has a chance to vote for the designer they believe to be the one to watch as a future great jeweller.
London Rocks, who are hosting a display of the KickStarters work over the Christmas period, opened their workshop and store in the summer of this year. Karl Karter – a diamond mounter – and Harshini Hollands own the business and their goal is to display the work of contemporary jewellers, all of which is hand-made in the UK. They are both designer-makers, specialising in bespoke hand-made and specially commissioned pieces of fine jewellery in the great tradition of Hatton Garden.
London Rocks are open from 10AM to 6PM, Monday to Saturday and you will find them at 9 – 15 Leather Lane. London EC1N 7ST. http://www.londonrocksjewellery.co.uk/
